Real Bathrooms

The Ordinary Renovators

Working with a long narrow bathroom - 1.6m x 4m - Hollie from @theordinaryrenovators wanted to include a bath and shower but didn't want the space to feel overcrowded. With a goal to ensure the space was in keeping with their Victorian house, Hollie wanted the space to feel like a luxury room, yet add a touch of the traditional throughout.

Classic Sophistication

The Brief

When Hollie created the moodboard for her space, it was based around a key feature piece, a vintage dresser found on Facebook Marketplace. Hollie knew that she wanted the space to feel in keeping with the Victorian house, opting for traditional brassware and accessories. Knowing that she wanted the space to feel statement and luxurious, Hollie chose a gorgeous wallpaper from Sandberg to complement the rich tones of the dresser and an understated duck egg blue paint for her panelling.

A Smart Layout

Maximising Space

Hollie re-insulated the entire room as this was key to making the space cosy and not cold. Deciding on a shorter bath (150cm) across the end of the room, meant they could include all of the other features. (As a normal bath is only around 20cm longer this hasn't been a big compromise for Hollie and is plenty big enough / comfortable!). The end 'room' also keeps that as the 'wet' part of the bathroom, with an extractor fan installed directly over the shower to keep condensation in check! Using the space in this way meant that we had plenty of space for a toilet and traditional double sink unit - perfect for a Victorian home.

TIMELESS DESIGN, MODERN EXECUTION

The Result

Hollie loved being able to bring in the traditional items - like the antique sink unit, with the modern fixtures allowing it to function as a contemporary piece - the precut worktop and underslung sink were absolutely perfect for this! Combined with the warmth of the wood against the cooler, luxe look of the marble, the space balances eras and tones. The wallpaper and panelling give the space a real 'extra' feel - and fit with the Victorian home, creating a flow throughout the rest of the house.
